We are delighted to announce our first patron, Dame Penny Mordaunt. She brings to our cause a distinguished record of public service and a lifelong dedication to duty and community: over 14 years as a Member of Parliament, she held nine ministerial roles — four at Cabinet level — including serving as the first woman ever to hold the post of UK Secretary of State for Defence.
Visiting the tower with our directors and ambassadors this past weekend, she said:
“War memorials and graves are testament to those that gave their life in the service of us all. But what did they, and so many others, do in life? When do we remember that. When do we talk about it to our children? If we lose the physical structures that were the stage for so much, then those stories will become exclusively for historians’ ears only. The Tangmere Tower must not be lost, nor the deeds of the many who worked and flew from the airfield. It has the potential to become useful community asset again as well as a permanent reminder of all that was accomplished within its walls. I am proud to help an incredible group of volunteers save this building for their community and the nation.”
